The Ancient History

The Tuareg are a Berber Amazigh people of the Sahara, in Morocco, Algeria, Mali, and Niger, whose long metalworking tradition is carried by hereditary smiths, the makers of Amazigh jewelry and Berber jewelry across the region. Their earrings, known as elkiss or eraf wa n tesabit, take a pointed form worn as an amulet for evil eye protection, against misfortune, and against illness.

These hoops keep the engraved character and pointed silhouette of that Tuareg jewelry tradition, reduced in scale for daily wear. Shown as emerald hoop earrings, the four stones can be set in the gem of your choosing. Evil eye jewelry is worn across the world today; the Amazigh smiths were making it centuries before the phrase existed.

Jewelry Details

Solid 18k gold, yellow or white. Emerald hoops as pictured, or choose ruby, blue sapphire, black diamond, white diamond, or amethyst. Contact us for other custom stone options.
