JEWELRY CARE

How to Keep Solid Gold and Sterling Silver for a Lifetime

Every Amora Adera piece is made in small numbers by hand, in solid metal, to be worn and inherited rather than replaced. Solid gold and sterling silver do not wear out. They wear in. With a little attention, your piece will outlive the trends it was never designed to follow.

Solid 18k Gold

Our fine jewelry is cast in solid 18k gold, never plated and never filled. Because the metal runs all the way through, your piece can be polished, repaired, resized, and passed on. It will develop a soft patina with wear, which many clients prefer to a factory finish. That patina can be brought back to high shine at any time.

How to care for solid gold

  • Remove your piece before applying perfume, skincare, and hair products
  • Avoid contact with harsh chemicals, chlorine, and abrasive surfaces
  • Store in a cool, dry place, each piece separately, to prevent scratching
  • Lay chains flat or hang them to prevent kinks and tangling
  • To clean, use a soft bristled brush with warm water and a mild soap that contains no detergent
  • Dry fully with a soft cotton cloth, then polish gently to restore shine
  • Check settings and clasps periodically for signs of wear
  • Be mindful of stone settings near loose knits and open weaves

Sterling Silver

Our silver line is cast in solid 925 sterling. Silver tarnishes. This is not a defect, it is the metal reacting with air and skin, and it is fully reversible. A silver polishing cloth restores the original shine in seconds.

How to care for sterling silver

  • Remove your piece before swimming, showering, washing, and exercising
  • Avoid contact with fragrance, cosmetics, and abrasive surfaces
  • Rinse in cool water and pat dry with a soft cotton cloth
  • Store each piece in an airtight container or pouch to slow tarnish
  • Lay chains flat or hang them
  • When tarnish appears, restore the shine with a silver polishing cloth

Diamonds and Gemstones

We set only certified natural and lab grown diamonds, graded by IGI or GIA, alongside responsibly sourced colored stones. Certification travels with the stone, and larger diamonds arrive with their papers so you can verify the grading yourself directly with the laboratory.

How to care for diamonds and gemstones

  • Clean with a soft bristled brush, warm water, and a mild soap that contains no detergent
  • Avoid chemical cleaners and sudden temperature changes
  • Some stones are softer than others and should not be submerged, so ask us if you are unsure about yours
  • Store separately in a dry place, away from daily exposure
  • Have settings checked periodically, particularly on pieces worn daily

Rings

Every ring is produced to your individual finger measurement, in quarter size increments. Rings take the most wear of any piece you own, so a few habits protect them.

  • Remove your ring before lifting, gardening, and any work that involves grip
  • Do not use household cleaners while wearing it
  • If a stone feels loose or the band no longer sits true, stop wearing it and contact us

Resizing is supported for the life of the piece. There is no time limit. Where the design allows, we coordinate the resize with our bench jeweler at no profit to the house. Some designs cannot be resized without compromising the piece, and we will tell you honestly if yours is one of them.

Earrings and Hoops

Hoops are the most delicate pieces we make. Handle them at the widest point rather than the hinge, and take them on and off slowly. If a hoop loses tension over time, open it very slightly by hand so it sits with a tighter fit when replaced.

Engraved and Personalized Pieces

Engraving sits in the surface of the metal and deepens in character with wear. Clean engraved pieces with a soft brush rather than a cloth, so the detail is not filled or flattened.

When Something Needs Attention

If your piece arrives damaged or develops a fault, contact us at orders@amoraadera.com. Every piece, in every tier, is covered if it arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect. Manufacturing faults discovered later are handled case by case, and we will make it right where we reasonably can.
